A portable RF detection system designed for Minerva Corporation to monitor activity across multiple frequency bands.
The Minerva RF Sentinel is a compact, battery-powered signal awareness platform designed to passively monitor 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz RF activity, including bands used by commercial drones, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and analog FPV video systems.
The project scope brings together custom PCB design, embedded firmware, interface development, and mechanical packaging in an expandable handheld system.
An ESP32-S3 mainboard coordinates dedicated RF daughterboards, collecting signal activity and power measurements for presentation on an onboard OLED display. Each detection module scans its assigned band independently, supporting concurrent monitoring across installed modules.
The internal architecture reserves two additional expansion headers and module positions for future detection capabilities.
The interface is designed to provide a clear overview of band activity, with individual band views for closer inspection. Firmware features include configurable detection thresholds, activity alerts, and non-blocking data polling.
A rechargeable lithium-polymer battery and USB-C charging support portable operation. The custom two-part enclosure integrates board mounts, battery storage, cable routing, display access, controls, and antenna connections.
